Plain LF will trade evenly with STR in 1v1(ic for ic), cause high disruption but low amount of kills. But I only had time to do 1936 tech LF/HF tests so far(against all bombers & years). Some questions left hanging on page 1 my preliminary is that HF is better vs CAS/NAV/STR and LF against TAC on interception. Wow, gone a few days renovating windows and this is what I come back too! I'm guessing that maximizing guns for use against bombers is the best approach regardless of light fighter or heavy fighter, but maybe CAS has some tricks to pull.
When I get a chance, it's time to retest damage to bombers from various fighters and variants. Doctrines (and particularly the strategic destruction doctrine) is is really important, and if I am bombing Germany (which means killing the Luftwaffe), I try to get all the way through the air doctrine tree before 1940 is done. The good news is that this, indirectly, validates one of my approaches to the air war as the UK. I think I agree with others that requiring 3000 planes to maximize detection from air superiority might be a bit high under current production rules.
Weapons 1 first for variants, then some speed, then some weapons, and so on.
Second most important area to beat the enemy in: doctrines (which grant air superiority and agility modifiers)Īfter that, variants and design companies and models make a difference. Most important area to beat the enemy in: detection.
So, if I read everything correctly, it looks like air to air combat (between light fighters on air superiority at least) requires superiority in a couple of areas.
